2026 Opening Concert

Aaron Parks brings a new trio to Casa da Música, bringing together two of the most distinctive voices on the European scene: the Danish double bassist Anders Christensen, a musician renowned for his work with Paul Motian and for his lyrical and deeply thoughtful approach to the instrument; and the Portuguese drummer André Sousa Machado, whose musical rapport with the pianist developed in Lisbon.

Raquel Camarinha

A Thousand and One Nights

Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música

Under the baton of British conductor Andrew Gourlay, this programme brings together three major works of 20th-century symphonic music, but its heart lies in The Thousand and One Nights: the song cycle that Ravel composed, captivated by Scheherazade, the heroine and narrator of these tales. The Portuguese singer Raquel Camarinha lends her voice to this figure, in a moment of hypnotic enchantment between Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 8 and Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony.
