Ralph Vaughan Williams Sinfonia nº 6 em Mi menor
In the troubled days of the outbreak of the First World War, Swiss composer Ernest Bloch sought inspiration in the book of Ecclesiastes, in the writings of King Solomon, whose voice he tried to transform into melodies for the cello which can be heard in Schelemo, the rhapsody he wrote in 1915. Vaughan Williams’s Sixth Symphony emerges from another period of conflict, the end of the Second World War, and its violent and dissonant character is frequently associated with the shocking impact of atomic bombs.
In a concert that includes a work by the young composer Daniel Martinho, the Costa Cabral Music Academy once again presents the result of its Orchestra Placement and the work carried out by the students during the course of the academic year.
