The tale of The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen, retold from the point of view of a Chinese fisherman, gave rise to an opera in three acts by Stravinsky, which premiered at the Paris Opera in 1914. Three years later, Stravinsky wrote a symphonic poem based on the opera which he called The Song of the Nightingale and which would lead to a dance for the Russian Ballet, with sets by Matisse and choreography by Balanchine.
In a concert that continues the retrospective of the work of Peter Eötvös, the emphasis falls on works commissioned by Casa da Música from the Young Composer in Residence, Ana Seara, and Toshio Hosokawa, with the participation of the acclaimed Arditti Quartet.
