Tan Dun Circle para 4 trios, maestro e público
Contact with the great representatives of Far Eastern culture makes for an unusual musical experience. The Chinese Elegies are eight poems originating in the distant Ming dynasty and one of the discoveries of the poet Camilo Pessanha in Macau, which give rise now to a series of songs by Chagas Rosa. Composer in Residence at Casa da Música, Unsuk Chin, wrote the series of songs snagS&Snarls based on texts by Lewis Carroll, preliminary work for her acclaimed opera Alice in Wonderland. With the premiere of Dai Fujikura’s 2nd Concerto for piano, we hear for the first time at Casa da Música the music of one of the Japanese composers best known in the West.
Tan Dun’s original idea is to form a circle with four instrumental trios, the conductor and the audience, so as to create a ritual of musical creation and provide a unique experience of active participation in a concert.
