Program:Maurice Ravel Concerto para piano e orquestra em Sol maior
Béla Bartók Concerto para orquestra
Joana Carneiro returns to Casa da Música as Principal Conductor of Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa in a program highlighting the presence of the Portuguese pianist Artur Pizarro in the interpretation of the Piano Concerto in G major, by Ravel. Completed in 1931, the Concerto was written under the influence of Ravel’s visit to the United States, clearly denoting several jazz elements. However, the formal clarity and the attractive melodic simplicity place it in a very classic line, almost Mozartian, while the virtuosity of the great romantics is also present. The recognized expertise of Pizarro fits perfectly with the pianistic writing of Ravel, which is why he has recorded the composer’s complete works.
Incipit, the piece that Luís Tinoco wrote in 2015 at the request of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the City of Rio de Janeiro, opens this appealing program that also includes Bartók’s Concerto for orchestra.
