Paul Hillier Principal Conductor
Program:Ivan Moody Canticum Canticorum I, Três Motetos do Cântico dos Cânticos
A programme in which the music of Arvo Pärt, already considered by critics to be the best fusion of agony and ecstasy since the time of Bach, represents the culmination of an intensely spiritual journey.
The reward for ascending to heaven is the theme of Funeral Ikos, the most famous choral composition by John Tavener, the British composer who rejected avant-garde currents and resurrected the traditions of the past as a way of simplifying musical language and communicating with the public in a more direct, emotive way. His influence extends to various composers, including his pupil Ivan Moody, whose career is intimately linked to Portugal and orthodox choral music.
