Four famous names in composition in Portugal get together in a program that demonstrates the diversity of today’s symphonic music and pays tribute to the work of the City Council of Matosinhos regarding the dissemination of Portuguese culture. The program opens with the world premiere of a new work commissioned to Vasco Mendonça, an important name in the new generation of composers in Portugal with international prestige. Luís Tinoco experiences the field of concertante writing, with pianist Mey Yi Foo interpreting Diptych. Pedro Amaral closes the circle of the works commissioned by Câmara de Matosinhos with Transmutations pour orchester - la bibliothèque en feu, a title that refers to a painting by Vieira da Silva and where the composer pays tribute to three great orchestrators: Bruckner, Wagner and Richard Strauss. Antinous, by António Chagas Rosa, for string quartet and orchestra, premiered in 1994 at Encontros Gulbenkian de Música Contemporânea, will now make its debut in Porto.
