Carlos Seixas was one of the first European composers to write concertos for harpsichord and string orchestra, even before he was able to hear other examples of the genre. Therefore, he was an innovator when it comes to concertante writing for keyboard instruments. It is with two concertos by Seixas that the prestigious harpsichordist Andreas Staier returns to Casa da Música, resuming a fertile collaboration with Orquestra Barroca. While he was on the Portuguese court, Domenico Scarlatti quickly recognized Seixas' talent. His sonatas are considered true jewels of the Baroque period, and Staier is one of their most acclaimed interpreters.
In this double concert, the journey through true gems from the eighteenth century is preceded by new music presented by Remix Ensemble. The Austrian Johannes Maria Staud was inspired by a surreal Josef Winkler's monologue to create a work that translates the fluctuations between anger and tenderness presented in the text. The piece that opens the concerto is an absolute debut, one of the pieces commissioned by Casa da Música to the Young Composer in Residence, Gonçalo Gato.
