Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovski Sinfonia nº 3, “Polaca”
The Polish character hovers over the program of this concert led by the prestigious Swiss conductor Stefan Blunier, a frequent guest of the world's leading orchestras and opera houses. Tragic love stories well suited to the romantic taste set the tone for the works of two emblematic Polish composers. If Moniuszko is the father of Polish opera, Halka is his most significant achievement. Karłowicz, in turn, devoted his time to the creation of symphonic poems with exuberant colors in a post-Wagnerian style. One of the great references of Karłowicz was Tchaikovsky. His Symphony No. 3 earned the epithet the "Polish" ending in apotheosis with a polonaise, a Polish dance extremely popular in tsarist Russia, where it was used as a symbol of its military power.
