  • Summer at Casa da Música Super Bock

    Summer at Casa da Música kicks off in June with the opening of a new space, Café Casa da Música, which expands to the terrace and has an intense program throughout the season. Jazz, fado and pop/ rock concerts, DJs or music schools, all in the relaxed atmosphere of balmy summer evenings. The call of the outdoors invades Sala Suggia with famous serenades by Mozart and Tchaikovsky, a praise to the elements with Gubaidulina’s Canticle of the Sun, in a performance of Coro Casa da Música, and the evocation of the moon by the Remix Ensemble conducted by Heinz Holliger – in what will be the first visit of the Swiss conductor and composer as Casa da Música’s Artist in Residence. The White Nights in St. Petersburg resound in the programme of Orquestra Barroca, inspired by the Court of Catherine the Great, and marking the debut of violinist Dmitri Sinkovsky in Porto. But there are more soloists that will brighten up this summer, like the cellist Stephanie Huang, winner of Prémio Suggia, in a concert with Orquestra Sinfónica, the pianist Artur Pizarro, in a solo recital, or the British DJ Mr Switch, who takes the stage alongside Orquestra Sinfónica for the world premiere of a new work by Gabriel Prokofiev. Another world premiere worthy of notice is one of the pieces commissioned to António Breitenfeld Sá-Dantas by Orquestra Sinfónica.

    The unforgettable songs of Sérgio Godinho are the motif of a concert by Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos. And there are also two unmissable jazz concerts by Branford Marsalis with Kurt Elling and the amazing saxophonist Kamasi Washington. São João is celebrated once again with Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa and other groups that will help colouring this summer: Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra XXI, the typical sounds of the Theme Country with the Ossipov Balalaica Orchestra, new music for old instruments with the Borealis Ensemble, and the debut of a new project called Orquestra Energia Fundação EDP. Casa da Música invades the streets with special concerts in various cities around Porto, and the summer ends in September, outdoors, with concerts at Avenida dos Aliados by Orquestra Sinfónica and OJM with a special guest. In turn, the Education Service restores the show Romani in Matosinhos and ends the year with Sonópolis.
